Gauff Calls Out Racist Gamblers After Madrid Open Loss

American tennis player Coco Gauff reported receiving racist messages from gamblers after her fourth-round exit at the Madrid Open. The 22-year-old lost to Czechia’s Linda Nosková on April 27, 2026, in straight sets. Gauff addressed the abuse in a TikTok post on Wednesday, targeting “angry gamblers saying racist things in my IG comments/dms hiding behind anonymous accounts.”

Gauff referenced lyrics from a Young M.A. song: “Yeah they hate, but they broke though (But they broke though) / And when it’s time to pop, they a no-show (Where they at?).” She had battled illness throughout the tournament, taking a medical timeout in the round of 32 over the weekend for digestive issues. Gauff vomited on court after the first set of a prior match and told Sky Sports she felt better afterward despite the “Madrid stomach virus.”

Gauff holds U.S. Open and French Open titles earlier in her career. The U.S. sports betting industry recorded $16.96 billion in revenue in 2025, according to the American Gaming Association. American bettors’ legal losses reached hundreds of billions that year, up about 11% from 2024.
