Philadelphia Eagles acquire Andy Dalton from Carolina Panthers for seventh-round pick
The Philadelphia Eagles acquired veteran quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick, according to a Fox News Digital report.
Dalton, born October 29, 1987, spent the 2024 NFL season with the Panthers after signing a two-year contract in March 2024. He primarily backed up Bryce Young, the Carolina Panthers' first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.[1][2]
Dalton started five games for the Panthers in 2024, posting a 1-4 record as the starter.[3]
The former TCU standout was Cincinnati Bengals' starting quarterback for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019, compiling a regular-season record of 70-62-2 and leading the team to four consecutive playoff berths from 2011 to 2014, though the Bengals won no postseason games during that span.[4]
Dalton was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in March 2020 in exchange for a seventh-round pick. He signed with the Chicago Bears in May 2021 and the New Orleans Saints as a free agent in March 2022, where he made 10 starts.[4]
The addition provides depth behind Eagles starter Jalen Hurts. Tanner McKee was among the backups last season, while the Eagles finished 2023 at 11-6 before a 32-9 wild-card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home.[5][6]
